Problem Definition

A sample delivered in a plastic bag looked like very fine saw dust collected from the dog food isle at the Micronesia Mall Payless Grocery Store. Under the microscope it was evident that this substance was composed entirely of mite bodies. These mites were almost, but not quite microscopic and all were dead. These mites are probably Glycyphagus domesticus, the house mite.

Recommendation

If any live mites are found in dog food or other products, they can can be killed by freezing the product for several days.
